South Shore adventure (coach tour)

Capture the essence of Iceland’s wonderful landscapes, its coastline and waterfalls.  Iceland’s South Region and the tour will take us all the way to the small Vík village.  We will stop at different places along the way:  Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, a small but extremely picturesque waterfall, special not only for its beauty but also because it is actually possible to walk behind it.

Skogar Village is the next place of interest.  There we will have a look at the Skogar Waterfall, one of the highest in Iceland.  Afterwards a visit of the Skogar Museum; a local folk museum which gives an excellent insight into Iceland’s history.  Vík Village is worth visiting.  It is located in an idyllic setting famous for the Reynisdrangar pillars that rise from the sea just off the shore.  You will also take a refreshing walk on the Reynisfjara Beach, a magnificent black sand beach with basalt columns of all sizes and shapes.

Duration: 9 hours.

South Shore with activities

The classical sights of the South Shore are easily turned into an amazing adventure traveling in super trucks, with areas like green fields, black sand beaches and white glaciers.  On the way to the South Shore region we stop at a horse centre near Hveragerdi Village and go for a horse riding tour.  Afterwards, the super trucks will take us along the south shore, driving off road, to Seljalandsfoss Waterfall.   This is a small but very picturesque waterfall, where it is actually possible to walk on a path behind it.  Then we experience a true sand safari, driving over wavy black sand beaches in our super jeeps with driver.   We will then enjoy a rather unusual lunch; a buffet will be awaiting us on a black sand beach.   After lunch it is time for the Ultimate Viking test!  We will have to get wet in the North Atlantic Ocean.  To get the blood running again after this chilling experience we have a taste of  “Viking Blood”, the Viking blood is served in sheep’s horns that the participants then keep as souvenirs.

The adventure then continues.  We drive to Sólheimajökull glacier outlet and go on a glacier walk.  We put on crampons and get ice axes and ropes and we learn the basics of glacier walking.   Somewhere along the way we make a halt and our guide breaks off a piece of the old ice.  We then make a toast in the one and only “Brennivin” also called Black Death, a drink best enjoyed cold.

This tour can be taken with or without activities and activities can be different than those mentioned.  For our activity section click here.
